Two Sailor Champions at Nashua Plainfield Tournament

The first snow of the season moved in prior to the start of today’s Nashua Plainfield tournament, slippery conditions wreaked havoc on today’s action with the cancellation of the JV portion of the tournament. Despite the late start and adverse conditions, Columbus put three wrestlers into the finals, and crowned two as champions.

Gavin Reed was the first finalist for Columbus at 126 pounds. He pushed the pace in his first matchup, using some turns to earn a major decision. In his finals matchup he would face returning state place winner and the #3 ranked wrestler at 106 pounds Kendrick Huck from Nashua Plainfield. Gavin would take a 2-0 lead into the second period, but two quick back points and a stalling point would prove to be the difference in this match. Gavin would lose a tightly contested match 3-2, finishing second on the day.

Max Magayna at 170 pounds was the second finalist for the Sailors. As the #1 seed in his bracket, he would make quick work of both his semifinal and finals matchups. Earning first period pins in both matchups and spending a total of 42 seconds on the mat for the entire day.

Carson Hartz at 182 pounds was the third and final finalist for Columbus. Following in Max’s footsteps as the #1 seed in his bracket. Carson also made quick work of his competition with three first period pins. Carson dispatched his first two opponents quickly, and in the finals he caught his opponents attack and used a cow catcher to toss his opponent to his back to finish his day with a first place finish. Carson spent a total of 1 minute and 34 seconds on the mat in his three matches.

Connor Knudtson at 220 pounds battled back from a tough second round loss and finished the day with three wins by pin fall, finishing in third place. Jonathan Hackett chipped in a pair of pins on the way to a 4th place finish at 138 pounds.

The Sailors will next be in actions for a home dual, hosting Wapsi Valley and Union on December 16th.
